San Fran Nan the Theologian Won't Say at What Point Word Became Flesh

Speaking to the Catholic Community Conference on Capitol Hill on May 6, Speaker Pelosi – in one of those moments in which she thought it politically beneficial for her to invoke her Catholic faith – waxed philosophical about the beauty and profoundness of the Word made flesh and about "giving voice to what that means in terms of public policy that would be in keeping with the values of the Word".

However, when pressed last week to answer at what point the Word became flesh, and whether Jesus had the right to life at the moment of His conception at the Annunciation, San Fran Nan the Theologian deflected and suddenly decided that such matters of profound theology are best left to being contemplated while bowing our heads at Mass (she even got that wrong ... the rubrics call for a profound bow - a bow of the body from the waist - at the point in the Creed where we profess the Incarnation (GIRM 137, 275b), NOT a mere bow of the head).

Cybercast News Service has the story:
(CNSNews.com) – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a Catholic, publicly stated earlier this year that she had a duty to pursue policies “in keeping with the values” of Jesus Christ, the “Word made Flesh.” But at a press briefing last week, when reminded of this statement, Pelosi declined to say when Jesus got the right to life.

“Whenever it was,” said Pelosi, “we bow our heads when we talk about it in church, and that’s where I’d like to talk about that.”

Later, when asked in writing through her press secretary whether the speaker believed Jesus had a right to life from the moment of conception, the press secretary responded: “The speaker answered the question. Thanks.”
