That's Right (You're Not From Texas)

My favorite Lyle Lovett song - some modern-day Western Swing at its finest:

And a much-covered classic from the man from Klein, Texas:

And just because I love the song so much, here's another (and, in my view, even better) live version of "That's Right (You're Not From Texas)":

A true story regarding these lines from that song:

So won't you let me help you Mister
Just pull your hat down the way I do
And buy your pants just a little longer
And next time somebody laughs at you
You just tell 'em you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway.

A little over 10 years ago, I went to a cookout at the home of a very dear friend from law school who lives in Northern Virginia. I wore a pair of boot-cut Wrangler blue jeans with black cowboy boots. My friend laughed at how the jeans were so long that they dragged the ground in the back and were slightly worn and frayed.

To the delight of a another friend of ours who is a HUGE Lyle Lovett fan, I responded:

That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway.

Hello.
I'm the guy who sits next to you and reads the newspaper over your shoulder.
Wait.
Don't turn the page;
I'm not finished.
