"Sinne is Where Our Ladye Sate"

Hilary at The Devout Life (newly added to the blogroll) has several Walsingham-related links as well as some commentary on the Shrine at this post - Sinne is where our Ladye sate, Heaven turned is to helle:

Walsingham is a touchstone for English recusant Catholicism and a place of deep and holy sadness for the crimes against the Church and the faithful by the thieving King Henry.

I might add here, that it is now also a place of more immediate sadness at the more recent internal iconoclastic revolt. The Slipper Chapel is still there and has been beautifully restored, but the new chapel (designed, quite deliberately, to resemble a barn) at the shrine itself is a place where NewChurch Catholics come and worship the new god, Ecumenism.

In the "Chapel of Reconciliation" all the necessary elements for the New Religion can be found. Clapping and swaying. The Mass as theatre-in-the-round. The Blessed Sacrament shoved off into a corner.
