So, It Turns Out That the Most Hated Person in This Election ...

... isn't even running for office.

In fact, he's just an innocent little 5-month old baby whose only "crime" appears to be that he has an extra chromosome and that he had the nerve to be born anyway. (See also here.)

In the astute words of Zippy:
"It is difficult for a society to systematically massacre 90% of a particular population without coming to hate that population."

Michael Medved, when he was reviewing the movie Schindler's List, praised it as a great example of "the seductive power of goodness". The Church has always understood this concept. Saints are celebrated because they encourage us to lead holy lives, full of hope and love. The advocates of abortion are horrified at Palin and Trig because they realize that they represent a culture changing moment. Abortion has flourished because of hatred, men of women, women of men, women of themselves, both of life and love, and because of despair. The power of hatred and despair is never to be underestimated: they play too prominent a role in, as Churchill phrased it, the lamentable annals of human folly and crime. However throughout human history there have also been men and women of goodwill who, in Lincoln's illuminating words, have powerfully appealed to "the better angels of our nature" and changed the world. Palin and Trig appeal to "the better angels of our nature" with hope and love, and that, in a nutshell, is what the abortion movement rightly fears.
