The Pro-Abort Candidate for Whom Certain Catholics Would Have Us Vote [UPDATED]

Victor Davis Hanson has his number:

... Today it was no accident in the wake of the attacks on Palin that suddenly Obama comes out with pro-abortion ads attacking the pro-life position of McCain. The timing is a sort of subtext about the current and recent Palin jr. and sr. pregnancies: apparently Team Obama want the viewer to see a pregnant teen-ager and a Down syndrome child and ponder something like: "under John McCain abortion in these cases would have been impossible."

UPDATE
In some quarters, we're hearing from fellow Catholics "Why didn't Sarah Palin mention abortion in her speech?"

I'm sure some are asking the question legitimately. To them, I answer that when she mentioned her "perfect" baby Trig - who was born 4 months ago with Down Syndrome, Gov. Palin gave the most powerful statement in favor of life ever delivered by a candidate at a Republican National Convention.

Walking the walk is more powerful than talking the talk.

However, for those asking the question merely to assuage their consciences over their decision to support the candidate who ran this ad on the very day Gov. Palin gave her speech, it must suck to be you right about now.

Hey, Doug Kmiec, you can put that black judicial robe back in storage, and better pack it with a lot of moth balls!

I also noticed that Palin didn't specifically mention abortion, but on reflection, I came to the same conclusion you did, Jay, Palin doesn't have to.

I did notice that Fred Thompson mentioned abortion, saying that as president, the question of whether to protect unborn life, or newborn life would not be above John McCain's paygrade.

I feel, though, that McCain needs to mention abortion in his speech tonight. I expect he will.

When she mentioned Trig, and walked out on stage with her family and proudly held him -- that was a statement in itself.

That Obama chose to at this moment launch a vicious media attack on McCain and Palin's pro-life stance is testimony to how desparate he's getting.

Running pro-abort ads is very dangerous b/c he's reducing his campaign to "single issue" voters.

Now that the war is (almost) over, however, what else is left?
