Nightline Calls Ave Maria U "A Catholic Jonestown"
(Hat tip: Custos Fidei, again)
From NewsBusters:
On Tuesday’s edition of "Nightline," anchor Martin Bashir interviewed businessman Tom Monaghan, founder of a new Catholic university in Florida and also a community called Ave Maria that will be based around Catholic values. Bashir parroted criticism that the town has "been described as a Catholic Jonestown, a kind of Catholic Iran, where individual rights and liberties are curtailed."My Comments:

Although the Jonestown analogy is highly inflammatory and inappropriate, there sure have been a whole lot of Catholics who ought to know better that have been lining up to drink Tom Monaghan's kool-aid.

To call Martin Bashir a toad is an insult to that fine amphibian species. To compare AMT to Iran says more about Bashir (namely, he's a certified dips--t) than it does about the town.
But.
As you say, it's extraordinarily difficult to work up a lot of sympathy for anyone who still docilely associates himself with Monaghan's projects.
