Bobby Schindler Endorses Brownback for President
Terri Schiavo's brother thanks Brownback for his efforts to protect all human life
ALEXANDRIA , Va. - U.S. Senator Sam Brownback received an endorsement today from Bobby Schindler, the brother of the late Terri Schiavo. Schiavo died nearly two years ago from starvation and dehydration after a court mandated the removal of her feeding tube, sparking a nationwide bipartisan effort to save her life.
"My family will never forget Sam Brownback's valiant efforts to save my sister's life," said Schindler. "Sam Brownback is the pro-life conservative we can trust to stand for all life, regardless of political calculations."
This endorsement comes one day after Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stated his opposition to the efforts of Florida Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida legislature to save Terri from her court-ordered starvation and dehydration: "I think it's probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts," Romney said yesterday to Bay News Channel 9 in Florida.
"Mitt Romney's alleged pro-life conversion evidently does not to apply to all human life," said Schindler. "The pro-life movement needs a leader we can trust in 2008 and I know Sam Brownback is that leader."
In 2005, Brownback joined the family of Terri Schiavo to launch the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the rights of disabled, elderly, and vulnerable citizens against care-rationing, euthanasia, and medical killing.

I am stating an honest opinion that some may not like. Please realize I don't want to be insensitive to anyone whose love one moved on to the next life.
You know, it is hard for me to figure out why the Schiavo case became THE cause for some social conservatives when it did. There are, of course, hundreds of cases like this a year in the U.S. Why this one? Well, partly, I think it had to do with the fact that her siblings disliked her husband so much. It became sort of an Anna Nicole Smith feud. Thank goodness it wasn't the same judge in Florida.
For some reason, someone in Florida got someone in Washington to get Congress to stop everything else they were doing to attempt to intervene in a family law matter. I find this highly innapropriate. I would ask those who think that family law courts should not be allowed to decide who makes the decision who they want to make the decision? Congress? For every individual case?
Of course, it is possible that the law should be changed in Florida to not allow feeding tubes to be removed. Maybe a state should be forced to use any life support measure available. Realize though, that a lot of people think family members should be allowed to decide the extent of medical intervention in death. You are running an uphill battle if you want to force everyone to keep a heart beating until it literaly disintegrates.
So, lobby for that legislation in your state. Site to the Schiavo case as an example. Do whatever you can but don't limit the debate by focusing in on one individual case.
