Jay, I am sorry to hear that any conservative Catholic blogger would be ripping on Santorum, shame on Mark Shea.

If tomorow Santorum's car hit my dog I'd cover the story up myself so as not to cost him any votes, that election is that close and that important.

As for my boy, Stephen Colbert, or as I like to call him St. Stephen (haha) I'll bet his "Say" was more chairitable than Shea's.

Also, sad as it may be to say, Colbert is one of the best friends we Catholics have in the media-world, sure that might not be saying much at all, but it does earn him a lot of slack, and benifit of the doubt from me.

He has nothing to gain from the fact that he never rips on the Church, and he especailly has nothing to gain by his occasional displays of genuine faith, and he does bring a lot more faith into his workplace than I have ever into the classroom.

The world loves an anti-Catholic funnyman, and somone with Colbert's inside expereince being Catholic could harp on the Church all day long, ala Dennis Leary, George Carlin, Dane Cook, and others.

Likewise, if Colbert wanted to rip on Santorum, he could have went-to-town on that. Most liberals have such a passionate hatered for the guy that it is impossible to mask.

My roomate, who is a liberal democrat, saw the part of Colbert where he talked about Lord of the Rings and Santorum, and I asked him, "do you think he was mocking Santorum?" and my roomate said "I think he was supporting him in a low-key way."

Anyway, the only way to really settle this will be when Colbert himself speaks publically and openly about his faith (which if he did tomorow he'd probably lose his job.) Some day I am sure he will though, till then I'll joust the windmills in defense of his good name!
