"Ardent, Practicing Catholic" Nancy Pelosi Says She Stands With Her "Fellow Catholics" in SUPPORTING the HHS Mandate

Go to Creative Minority Report and The American Catholic for the disturbing, yet hardly surprising, details, but here's the money quote:
I'm going to stand with my fellow Catholics in supporting the administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made and I support it.
The Bishops have to do something about this PRONTO. The fact that Pelosi claims to be speaking as a Catholic and on behalf of Catholics in supporting the HHS mandate makes this so much worse than the usual thumb in the eye the Church receives from the pro-abort "Catholic" contingent in government. As one commenter at The American Catholic puts it:
There’s a huge difference between an “I’m a Catholic but” and an “I’m a Catholic and” formulation. This statement used the latter, and if only for clarity’s sake some official has to denounce it.
At the very least. I think it calls for her Bishop, or perhaps the Bishops jointly, to go much further.

You see, apparently, San Fran Nan the Theologian has once again decided to establish herself as THE "alternative magisterium" to the Bishops. It has become enough of a recurring problem - and this time is the most egregious example yet - that the Bishops need to permanently put her in her place by stating once and for all that she does not and cannot speak as a Catholic or for Catholics because she is NOT Catholic.

As long as there are prominent Catholics that publicly stand in opposition to the Bishops on such important matters, it will ALWAYS undercut the Bishops' ability to speak authoritatively and in one voice (and as THE voice) on behalf of the Church, and will allow the dissenters to provide "Catholic cover" for those who would undermine and/or persecute the Church.

Hi, Jay. I've given up hope that the bishops will ever do anything about politicians like Pelosi. In my attempts to dialog with devout Protestants, nothing has proven more of a stumbling block than the Church's refusal to discipline these dissenters. As a fellow convert, perhaps you've seen this, too.

Yep, Zach. I've seen it and experienced it. I can't tell you the number of times when I was growing up that the Kennedys in general and Ted Kennedy in particular were held up as examples of the typical Catholic. This was done as a warning against the "dangers" of Roman Catholicism.
