According to Malkin, it looks like they may not have been wearing pins. This could be a politically motivated attack, but it might just be a random act of violence (not that the victims care one way or the other).
Yes, they were literally mugged for supporting Palin. But we have a political mugging going on in California over support of Palin. Guess what - Gerry Brown (yes the old governor moonbeam) who is now Attorney General pf CA is investigating a state university for inviting Sarah Palin to speak at a fundraiser. Here is the link.

Somehow I don't think he would be doing this if it was let us say Bill Clinton or another prominent Democrat speaking at this university fundraiser
