Garrison Keillor's Final Solution: In Order to Stop Being "Distracted" by Abortion, Let's Kill Off Republicans
Untalented hack on the NPR government dole writes:
... Thirty-six years of bitterness over Roe vs. Wade and what has it gotten us? If the decision were overturned tomorrow, not much would change. The question would revert to the states, and some would permit the termination of pregnancy, others wouldn't. [ED.: Uhhhh, they obviously don't teach logic at Journalism school, because the "others wouldn't" part of that statement seems like a rather significant change to me.] Meanwhile, the effect of the battle has been quite other than what the Catholic Church could have wanted, the poisoning of the body politic. [ED.: And whose fault is that? It's because of the Supreme Court that the political stakes have become so huge. Had they stayed out of it in 1973, the so-called "poisoning of the body politic" would likely not have been so significant. Besides, it appears that the logically challenged Lake Woebegone Boy's point is that the Catholic Church could live with legalized abortion on demand just so long as we were all a little "nicer" to one another. And, of course, "being nice" entails pro-lifers rolling over and shutting the **** up. Oh, and supporting government-run health care.](emphasis and editorial commentary added)
[...]
When an entire major party has excused itself from meaningful debate ..., one starts to wonder if the country wouldn’t be better off without them and if Republicans should be cut out of the health-care system entirely and simply provided with aspirin and hand sanitizer. Thirty-two percent of the population identifies with the GOP, and if we cut off health care to them, we could probably pay off the deficit in short order... [ED.: No "poisoning of the body politic" going on there. Nope, not at all.]
It's time to dump the dead-end issues that have wasted too much time already... Get over yourselves... Pass health-care reform. [ED.: Stop getting "distracted" by abortion. Who cares if the current healthcare proposals fund abortions with tax dollars and deny conscience protection to healthcare providers? Hey, Catholic Bishops, get over yourselves.]
My Comments:
What about those of us who aren't Republicans, but who identify ourselves as social conservatives? Or those who might otherwise be Democrats but see the murder of the unborn as a more important issue than whether Uncle gives us health care for "free"?
Should we be cut off from health care, too?
(Or perhaps the better question would be to ask: Can we opt out of your abortion-funding, conscience-clause-denying, health-care-rationing, budget-busting, crappy-care-providing government boondoggle, too?)
If so, then you're now up to somewhere betwen 40% and 50% of the population that would be "cut off" from health care.
Seems a rather steep price to pay for covering the estimated 11-16% of the population currently without health coverage.

Great fisk Jay! The comments to the article by the Tribune's readers have been overall very scorchingly against the Virgil of Lake Woebegon. Keillor is so locked into a leftist bubble that he has no idea how his musings sound to someone who isn't swimming in his Kool Aide.
What an idiot.
I suppose this is where we, as conservatives, have had the chance to learn through natural selection over the last 30+ years of being called fascists all the time. Rule #1 for polite and reasonable political discourse: Don't recommend that all your opponents be killed.
Sheesh.
"...Get over yourselves..."
A laughably ludicrous statement coming from a leftist, isn't it? After all, they'd be no more if not for their narcissism.
All joking aside, though, this breed of liberal is unnaturally vile and practically celebrate the fact.
Though I'm only 32, I remember when Garrison Keillor was still funny and creative; it's rather sad and pathetic that he's fallen into bitter political commentary.
When I was a kid, my folks (especially my Dad, RIP) would listen to him every week and buy all sorts of Woebegone gear (t-shirts, cassette tapes, etc.). We even saw his show in person a couple of times (San Diego and Tucson). His monologue was awesome and he always had interesting musicians and other talent on. Anyway...
