Beware of any Catholic who comes bearing what he says is some new understanding or marital relations.

Ummm, where'd anyone ever get the idea that the Church was ever opposed to married couples fully enjoying the right use of their marital privileges?

Sorry, this is a kind of slander against the Church of the past. And Hugh Hefner? The guy is a deviant who in a rightly ordered society would be thrown in jail for pushing pornography.

I'm glad the guy is orthodox so far as contraception is concerned; but his "discovery" that sex is really great is something that the Church has been familiar with from the beginning, and has always defended against extremes of either kind, be it puritanism or libertinism.

West has the right idea, but it seems to me that in the interest of selling a few extra books, he's going out of his way to produce a few outrageous sound bites. Hugh Hefner a hero? Song of Songs as a guide for oral sex?

It's a shame because, as I said, he's on to something. The underlying message is in fact something to build upon. It's pity that he's wrapping his message in such hyperbole.

He stays with the bounds of having sex open to life and as an expression of love. However, statements like, "Christians must complete the sexual revolution." can be misunderstood. He might have meant it as when the Lord said, "He came not to do away with the Law but to bring it to completion" meaning to perfect it by going beyond legalism. With the sexual revolution, to complete it would mean to purify it and to elevate it as an selfless expression of love instead of a license to exploit every bit of sensual pleasure.

Beware any Catholic who makes his living from reinterpreting aspects of the Faith.
