The Dems' "Striking Silence" on Judges
Ed Whelan writes at Bench Memos:
Among Democratic party activists, there are few bigger election issues than the question of who will make the next Supreme Court appointments. So I find it particularly striking that neither Barack Obama nor Joe Biden mentioned the issue a single time in their convention speeches.(emphasis in original)
Why not? My guess is that Democrats have figured out that the vast center of the American electorate prefers representative government and judicial restraint, on the one hand, to government by judiciary and liberal judicial activism, on the other. Let’s hope that John McCain and other speakers at this week’s Republican convention know how to talk to American citizens about the courts.
