Is McCain About to Throw the Election by Picking a Pro-Abort Running Mate?

There's been lots of ink spilled on this, including by me here and here.

Here's a round-up of some of what's being said around St. Blog's and elsewhere about the possibility of McCain choosing a pro-abortion running mate:

I think we can probably relax:

Especially after the warm reception he received from conservatives after his Saddleback triumph McCain understands how this election will be won and waffling on the abortion issue by chossing a pro-abort Veep is no part of the strategy I think he has embraced.

I am not sure that it's a done deal. There is a large segment in the RP that are pro-abort, likewise there are a number of older northeastern democrats that are pro-abort and favor a strong acting president, all of whom McCain appeals to.

One thing I do think will happen irregardless, this election marks the end of the Republican Party as we know it. Odds are the McCain will win, and there is enough in between for a possible Obama win, but I think McCain will win. And during that time he will do more to drive away real Conservatives and libertarians that the party will fold.

Just my two cents.
