Quote of the Day
Via email correspondence, Catholic attorney and frequent St. Blog's commenter Mike Petrik made the following astute observation regarding those who try to conform Church teaching to themselves rather than conforming themselves to Church teaching:
The larger danger today lies not with those guilt-ridden sinners who try imperfectly to conform their actions to their conscience, but with those self-righteous sinners who simply conform their conscience to their actions. Ironically, the latter group has the luxury of false integrity while the former group is vulnerable to the charge of hypocrisy.(emphasis added)

Indeed, very insightful. I think stuff like that is painfully evident particularly for us Catholics. Look at how guilty we are of these things. We are blessed with the sacraments and an authoritative teaching body, yet certain teachings may run contrary to the way we would choose to believe. Our challenge is to embrace the Truth and bring our wills to conversion, yet how many of us fall headlong into open dissent? Sadly, I was just reading an example of it this morning on another Catholic blog.
Great quote. Well said with style.
I see to much of this stuff on other Catholic blogs as well. It is interesting that where I see this practice are the very same blogs that show a lack of charity towards their readers as they pontificate their 'high' thinking to us plebes.
