Charlton Heston Dead at 84

Two weeks ago, Paul Scofield - the man who most famously portrayed St. Thomas More in A Man for All Seasons - passed away. Today, Charlton Heston, the other great actor who played St. Thomas More in a remake of the play that should never have been made, passed away at the age of 84.

The iconic roles for which Mr. Heston will most likely be remembered are Moses in The Ten Commandments, Michaelangelo in The Agony and the Ecstasy, the title role in Ben Hur, and Taylor in The Planet of the Apes.

He will also be remembered as a political activist who marched for civil rights in the 1960s and campaigned for 2nd Amendment rights as President of the National Rifle Association. A conservative Republican, Mr. Heston had an upsurge in popularity during the Clinton years when the bumper sticker "My President is Charlton Heston" adorned the vehicles of many NRA members.

Regular Guy Paul has a fine tribute to this great actor and great man.

I quite liked that version of A Man for All Seasons, especially for Heston's performance and for Roy Kinnear's performance as "The Common Man".

As always, thanks for the link!

I think I enjoyed the Heston version of the play even more overall.

I guess I just didn't think Heston fit the part.
