Blast from the Past: McCain and the Supreme Court
I was looking through some of my older posts and came across this one from last June regarding the Wisconsin Right-to-Life case.
At the time, Sen. McCain described the decision, which rolled back a portion of his beloved McCain-Feingold and protected the free speech rights of Wisconsin Right-to-Life to run ads against pro-abort politicians in the 2 months leading up to an election, as "regrettable".
Interestingly, the "moderate" Justice Kennedy had joined with Justices Scalia and Thomas in writing a concurring opinion that would have gone even further in striking down provisions of McCain-Feingold. This is what I wrote back then about the decision:
Look who sided with McCain, and look who sided against him. That ought to serve as some indication of the kinds of Justices that McCain would put on the Court.
Even the "centrist" Anthony Kennedy thinks the entire McCain-Feingold boondoggle should be struck down and assigned to the dustbin of history.
