Texas Gov. Perry Backs Giuliani Despite Differences

(Hat tip: Mark Shea)

This is one of those times I'm glad I don't live in my home state anymore (although having a Hilliary!-lover as a governor here in Ohio is no better):
WASHINGTON - Republican presidential contender Rudy Giuliani won the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry Wednesday, despite their differences on abortion rights.

Perry said that his biggest concern had been Giuliani's support for abortion rights but that he was satisfied the former New York mayor would appoint judges who view the issue conservatively.

"The one (issue) that I wanted to hear him give me an answer and look me right in my eyes was that issue of who can I expect, what type of individual can I expect on the Supreme Court," Perry said at a news conference with Giuliani.

"He clearly said ... you can look for people like Scalia and Roberts and Alito. Let me tell you, I can live with that," Perry said, referring to conservative Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito and Chief Justice John Roberts.

Perry said when he buys a pickup truck, he doesn't rule any out simply because they have an option he doesn't like. He said the war on terrorism is the campaign's overriding issue and Giuliani is best-equipped to lead a country at war.

The Texas governor, who accompanied Giuliani on a campaign trip to Iowa later in the day, said, "Mayor Giuliani is not the enemy. Rudy Giuliani is a culture warrior."
[ED.: The question is on whose side is he fighting? At best, he's a double agent.]

Best line: I can live with that," Perry said

Too bad actions speak louder than words.

It must be difficult to say "Rudy Giuliani is a culture warrior" with a straight face.

The only thing Rudy is is a conservative base warrior. It is much more likely he will fight with the base then with the culture.

I met Rick Perry once, when he was Lt.Governor.

I was rather turned off by him, though, when one of his first acts as Governor was to sign a hate crimes bill that his predecessor had taken so much heat for vetoing.

He's publicly a conservative, but who knows what he's thinking? I think he's just ambitious.

I've never trusted Perry, either. Even before the "hate crimes" debacle. He's got opportunist written all over him.

How the heck does anyone think Perry is a conservative?! Does anyone recall that he attempted by executive order to force 11-year old girls to get the HPV vaccine? Conservatives don't do that.

It makes total sense that Perry (a rino) backs Guiliani (a rino), birds of a feather and all that.
