Did Anyone Else Who Reads National Review Get the Impression That ...

... Rich Lowry seemed to be having a Rudygasm last night at The Corner?

See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here (Definitely read this one - Rudy's coronation by Rich. Rah, rah, Rudy!), here, here, here, and here.

Yes...and rightfully so... Rudy is right on most of the issues that conservatives care about. I'll grant you that those few areas where he doesn't toe the conservative line are important issues, but we're fighting a war for our very existence and sometimes that means just a little bit more than it would otherwise.

Sorry. I'm not willing to fight the war abroad only to lose the war that really matters most here at home.

Great civilizations die first from within (via cultural and moral degradation) before being conquered from without.

Do you have to take injections of testosterone and adrenaline while watch the twin towers fall daily to keep that mindset going? Because I know I ran out of steam years ago. It's impossible for most of us to maintain paranoid jingoistic belligerence indefinitely, at least without a little help.

It's true that Rudy has the right viewpoint about the war, but so what? Other than Ron Paul, every one on that stage, plus the two guys set to enter the race - Newt and Fred - also happen to share Rudy's views. And there is nothing in Rudy's background to suggest that he is especially fit, at least moreso than those others, to be an effective leader in that regard.

I have a deep admiration for what Rudy did as Mayor of New York, but there's nothing in that time of being Mayor that suggests that he would make an effective commander-in-chief. All of the other candidates are equal to or superior Giuliani in terms of experience and policy regarding the war, but none of them have written checks to support an institution that murders the unborn.

Sorry Rudy, you're out.

Sorry, but Rudy's so-called "right view on the war" is diametrically opposed to (a) the position of the Catholic Church and (b) common sense. Rudy is consistent in his anti-God thinking. For him, and for others like him, the solution to every problem is the same: Kill it! The political party that gave us Iraq (AKA the Stupid Party) really needs a pro-abort at its head, and, quite frankly, most of the so-called "pro-lifers" in the GOP won't care one bit if Rudy gets their party's nomination.

I didn't get to see the debate but Vox Nova has two posts -- Brownback packpedals: Conclusion: Brownback will support a pro-choice politician for the U.S. presidency that merits further attention. Likewise they've devoted recent posts to labeling Fr. Pavone (and, by implication, Cardinal O'Connor) as hypocrites.

Umm, no, support for the war is not in opposition to the Church unless you think the Pope's personal political view reflects actual Church teaching.
