Irish Census Figures Show Increase in Marital Breakdowns
From Catholic World News:
Dublin, Apr. 16, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Ireland's latest census shows a sharp increase in the number of broken marriages. My Comments:
The latest census figures show 198,592 people who are separated, divorced, and remarried. That figure represents a 28% increase from the latest census in 2002, observes the Iona Institute, an organization dedicated to strengthening marriage.

"At this rate of increase we will soon have a marital breakdown culture on a par with America and Britain," says Tom O'Gorman of the Iona Institute. "This is in no one's interest."

It is mind blowing to see once great Catholic nations like Ireland (and Spain, and Italy) having these near complete break-downs practically overnight. So much of Ireland's history was about defining itself as being seperate from England, it is sad to see Ireland is now following its old opressor into the moral gutter. Still we can't get too somber yet, Ireland still has a solid pro-life majority, and the right kind of laws, not to mention the highest birthrate on the continent. They have some troubles in the Church hirearchy though and the same reasons for hope that we have, the young priests and seminarians are men of the JP-II Generation mindset, and there are many Polish immigrants going to Ireland.
