Former Virginia Governor Gilmore Wants Conservatives to Examine His Track Record
From Cybercast News Service:
(CNSNews.com) - Former Virginia Gov. James Gilmore would like conservatives who are shopping for an alternative to the leading contenders for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination to know that he is no "Johnny come lately," whether the issue is fighting terrorism, securing tax cuts, preserving gun rights, or promoting the right to life. Full StoryMy Comments:
I'll give Gilmore credit for this: surprisingly, he actually governed to the right of his predecessor George Allen. My man is Brownback, but Jim Gilmore is definitely someone I could support if he got the nomination.
UPDATE
Or maybe not. See the discussion in comments.

Unfortunately, I talked to Jim Gilmore at CPAC and he is still pro-abortion. I wrote a post about it:

"... still pro-abortion."
Are we talking about the same Jim Gilmore? The Jim Gilmore I know has always been pro-life.
I seem to remember Jim Gilmore opposed banning first trimester abortions during his 1997 gubernatorial campaign. For what it's worth, I am quite certain that George Allen was ultra-squishy on first trimester abortions during a debate with Chuck Robb in 2000 since I looked up the transcripts within the past year or so.
Allen definitely stated his support for 1st trimester abortions throughout his career. Of course, he was actually more pro-life in action than his rhetoric suggested.
But I never heard Jim Gilmore state his support for abortion. Gilmore is likely the most pro-life Governor Virginia has had since Roe v. Wade.
I just read Billy's post and it confirms what I remembered exactly (regarding Gilmore, not Allen).
Bear in mind Billy Valentine is a Brownback operative.
Since all Brownback's supporters ever talk about is abortion, someone should probably start posting about Brownback's liberal immigration views.

Chairmaine Yoest from Family Research Council confirms it as well.
My mom is the Vice President of Virginia Society for Human Life and she too confirms.
Anon,
I'm also a Brownback supporter. Have been since early on, maybe even before Billy got involved in the campaign.
Any candidate who thinks it's okay to kill people is automatically disqualified in my book. So, if Gilmore is as Billy and Publius describe him, then he's out in my book.
Sure, I am a Brownback operative. That is fine. And I wrote that at the very beginning of my post.
But when Jim Gilmore tries to characterize himself as pro-life on his presidential exploratory committee website, and then PERSONALLY tells me differently, I am going to expose it.
Being pro-life means from the moment of conception. Jim Gilmore is pro-abortion with exceptions, not pro-life with exceptions.
Over on my blog, Gilmore supporters are trying to argue that whether or not Gilmore supports abortion in the first trimester doesn't matter, because he would support pro-life judges.
I believe that President Bush had to veto federally funded embryonic stem-cell research legislation under a REPUBLICAN controlled Congress.
If Gilmore doesn't believe in protecting human life in the womb during the first trimester, that pretty much guarantees he could care less about destroying embryos.
Gilmore doesn't support abortion in the first term. He's smart enough to see that he can't overturn Roe v. Wade by fiat. He took that position as Governor because the judiciary would shoot down anything more overreaching thus making it pointless. He's taking his position on pro-life judicial appointments as President for the same reason.
The Brownback folks can put out as much rhetoric as they want, but if they fail to recognize the realities of the judicial and legal system in the proces, then they are harming the pro-life movement just as much as the ACLU.
By the way, Governor Gilmore launched a massive investigation into the VA University system while he was in office to make sure no embryos were being used for research purposes on the state's dime.
