Bowie Kuhn, the commissioner of baseball during a tumultuous 15-year period when the game experienced dramatic growth accompanied by unprecedented labor strife, died today at a hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. Kuhn, who lived in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., was 80.

What a great man. I got to meet him last month in Florida and talk with him about baseball's return to Washington. He was very, very happy and you could still easily see his passion for baseball. He was a good friend of Senator Brownback and some of his campaign staff is flying down to Florida tomorrow for his funeral.
