Rich Leonardi on "Acting With Urgency"
Rich Leonardi writes at Ten Reasons:
In 2004, a full two decades after Mario Cuomo taught pro-abortion Catholic politicians how to use Catholic universities as campaign props, the bishops' conference issued a statement criticizing the practice. My Comments:
In 2006, almost a decade and a half after Pope John Paul II promulgated the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the bishops released the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.
In 2007, less than two weeks after a stacked U.N. panel circulated an excerpt from an unreleased report on global warming, the bishops urged Congress to take action.
It's reassuring to know they can "act with urgency" when the occasion requires it.
As I sit here in my office watching the snow fall outside my window, having seen only 1 day above freezing in the last month and bracing for temperatures to once again dive downward to highs in the single digits later this week, I can think of lots of things upon which the Bishops should more urgently concern themselves than with a crock of **** like global warming.
Jackie, posting at Rich's blog put it best:
... So - a bishop of the Catholic Church, a successor of the Apostles of Jesus Christ can have a discussion with a politician who's views on abortion are about as clear as a person can possibly make them, hasn't had the opportunity to discuss them with her BUT did make time for immigration. It's no wonder the bueacracy of the USCCB is writing on GLOBAL WARMING!!
Better they should think of ETERNAL WARMING - their own and their flocks. It might focus their minds and increase their sense of urgency.
UPDATE (13 February)
Rich has more today on the Bishops' efforts.

Thanks for the plug, Jay. I'm going to turn this into an essay for Catholic Exchange.
Global warming is the greatest moral issue of our time. If we do not fix it then we have acted in an immoral manner towards our children. If we do not save our planet - then their will not be any abortions for you extemists to scream about.
You do care about your childrens future?
Jay,
Eamon is a dissident I banned from my site several weeks ago. He's no doubt followed me to yours.
Actually, Eamon's been around my blog defending Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good ever since my letter criticizing that organization appeared in the Catholic Chronicle last month.
Hmmm. Perhaps the following went in the other direction.
