Divided House Votes to Allow Embryonic Research

From Cybercast News Service:
(CNSNews.com) - In a vote of 253 to 174, the House of Representatives Thursday passed a bill to lift President Bush's restrictions on federal funding for stem cell research that may hold future medical treatments but destroys early stage human embryos.

The bill is identical to one passed by both chambers last year and subsequently vetoed by Bush. The White House has indicated that lawmakers can expect a similar response from the president this time, and Thursday's vote fell short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn a presidential veto.

My Comments:
This is H.B. 3. That's third bill on the House agenda. Just so you know where "conservative Catholic grandother" Nancy Pelosi places her priorities.

On the bright side they are nowhere near the 290 votes needed to override a veto and the Democrats' 30-seat pickup only netted them 15 extra votes to fund embryo-destructive research.
