Brownback Focus on Family Issues, Abortion

Presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback in today's news. First from UPI (via GOPUSA):
WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, a declared GOP candidate for president, has kind words for Hillary Clinton and is against the U.S. troop buildup in Iraq.

But he says his main effort now involves family issues and getting the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade
[ED.: Pres. Bush - arguably, the most pro-life President ever - never did this. He said the country "wasn't ready" to overturn Roe.], the 1973 decision recognizing a woman's right to an abortion.

***
He said he thought the former first lady was "very bright ... talented lady, quite committed."

Brownback was in Washington over the congressional break to address the March for Life Monday
[ED.: Pres. Bush - arguably, the most pro-life President ever - never did this (at least not in person).].
And from the Blogs4Life Conference:
10:55 am - Sen. Sam Brownback (who is now a presidential candidate) gave a powerful speech, centered on life issues. Among the many points he revealed 80% of unborn children with Down Syndrome are aborted – a staggering figure that ought to be unacceptable in any society. Sen. Brownback passionately addressed those with an unborn Down Syndrome, pleading with them to use adoption rather than abortion. Today, he and 25 colleagues are filing the fetal pain awareness act - unborn children are given anesthesia - informing woman considering abortion makes sense.

The Senator ended his speech thanking bloggers for making a difference.

Didn't Reegan personaly address March for Life? I thought I had heard that but I could be wrong.

As for Bush being our most pro-life President ever, I have a feeling Washington, Jackson, Monroe, Lincoln, Garfield, etc, all the Presidents who never lived in our post-modern, post-sexual revolution, world would find the practice to be barbaric.

I heard Sen. Brownback today and he was just great! I listened at work and prayed Divine Mercy for our sin-sick country and world. I'm reading Saint Faustina's Diary right now, so I know we must BATHE this country in prayer for Divine Mercy to wash over all of us. Thank you for your great blog, Jay.

Rated 27% by the NEA, indicating anti-public education votes.
Elite White Christian Education - diversity not allowed.

Voted NO on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

I didn't realize the Catholic Church had taken a position on all those issues, Eamon. All of those issues might be litmus tests for being a good little Democrat Party sycophant, but they're not necessarily reflective of what makes one a good Catholic.

As for the death penalty (just to address one of the issues you raise), you might want to read a little more about Sen. Brownback's reconsidering his position on the death penalty (not that favoring the death penalty under certain circumstances or voting in favor of the war makes one a bad Catholic (promoting abortion, euthanasia and ESCR, on the other hand, does) - see then-Cardinal Ratzinger's 2004 letter to the U.S. Bishops)

Finally, your post drips with contempt for Catholic converts. Converting to Catholicism does NOT equal becoming a Democrat Party sycophant (but then, that's really ALL you care about is electing Democrats).

Show such contempt for converts again, and I will remove all of your comments from this blog.
