Dad Of A Columbine Victim Asks “Why Did This Happen?”
Will wonders never cease? CBS allowed this to be broadcast:
(CBS) I'm saddened and shaken by the shooting at an Amish school today, and last week’s school murders.Outstanding!
When my son Dan was murdered on the sidewalk at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, I hoped that would be the last school shooting. Since that day, I’ve tried to answer the question, "Why did this happen?"
This country is in a moral free-fall. For over two generations, the public school system has taught in a moral vacuum, expelling God from the school and from the government, replacing him with evolution, where the strong kill the weak, without moral consequences and life has no inherent value.
We teach there are no absolutes, no right or wrong. And I assure you the murder of innocent children is always wrong, including by abortion. Abortion has diminished the value of children.
Suicide has become an acceptable action and has further emboldened these criminals. And we are seeing an epidemic increase in murder-suicide attacks on our children.
Sadly, our schools are not safe. In fact, we now witness that within our schools. Our children have become a target of terrorists from within the United States.

Of course, conservative viewpoints in the media ALWAYS require equal time from the left. So, here's Kewpie Colic's ... errrr ... Katie Couric's response:
Katie on "freeSpeech"One day, this nation will wake up and realize, like the father of the Columbine student, the devastation wreaked by our devaluing of human life.
We’ve gotten a lot of comments and feedback about last night’s “freeSpeech,” which featured a father whose son was killed at Columbine.
A lot of the comments were negative, like these:Your free speech segment today was the biggest load of hogwash I have ever witnessed. How could you use an unspeakable tragedy to give a rightwing flat earth nut job a podium? But we also received some positive feedback:
Tonite, you have some idiot who tragically lost his son at Columbine…he has my sympathy, but he does not deserve a spot on the Evening News to spout his political views.
This ultra right wing religious right drivel is a disgrace. The Free Speech segment from the father of the Columbine student was one of the finest pieces I have ever heard on network news. My sincere appreciation goes to CBS for the courage to air it.Clearly, this struck a nerve.
Thank you! As the mother of three children, I applaud your episode of Free Speech tonight. I’m sure that you will receive many e-mails denouncing your segment, but I appreciate hearing a “conservative” view in what can be a very liberal media…I live in the heartland of America (Kansas) and believe we all need a strong faith to get through difficult times.
I never thought I would hear such words on any network television station. He said all the things I have been thinking since the ‘60s.
We knew when we decided to put on this segment that a lot of people would disagree with it. We also knew some might even find it repugnant. (Some of you made that point loud and clear!)
But that is the very essence of what we try to do with the “freeSpeech” segment. This is a platform for our viewers to hear from a wide range of people – those who may share your views, and those who don’t.
When we approached Brian Rohrbough and asked him his thoughts about this latest school shooting, this essay was the result. We understood that people may disagree with what he said, and with what he believes. But censoring or attempting to re-shape his opinion would be antithetical to the very idea of free speech.
This is a nation built on dialogue and debate. And, most importantly, on freedom of speech. As George Washington once said, “If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
We hope “freeSpeech” can add more voices to the national discussion. At the very least, last night, we got people talking.
And we hope the conversation is just beginning.

"A LOT of the comments were negatitve...But we also received SOME positive feedback"
That's right Katie, just keep telling yourself that "the right to choose" is as overwhelmingly popular nationwide as it is among Manhattan Socialities, and Left Coasters.
Man, are these people in for the shock of their lives if and when (keep praying) Roe v. Wade goes and the majority of states do away with abortion on demand.
By the way I have heard Couric's mom was somehow affilited with Planned Parenthood, I'll have to look more into that.
Mr. Rohrbough speech was outstanding.
I couldn't argue or disagree with anything he said. I'm just so glad he didn't come off like a whack-job.
fidei, let us know what you come up with in your investigations.
Notice the difference in the emailed responses that Katie includes in her piece.
Those who agree with Mr. Rohrbough seem genuinely grateful that their ideas can even get a fair hearing in the broadcast media.
By contrast, note the tone of those who disagree with Mr. Rohrbough. They are offended that such ideas could get any play whatsoever. "CBS belongs to us and should only reflect our ideas, damnit!" Do they rebut his viewpoint with reasoned responses? NO! They resort to name-calling in an effort to belittle Mr. Rohrbough and his point of view - as if they have no validity or right to exist at all.
Very good point Jay, that almost deserves a post in it's own right, CBS must not have noticed what it was doing... anyway the more and more I see of the left, the more and more it seems their motto should be "It's not Faschism when we do it."
Ban guns.
What more do you want?
