This Day in Jacobite History: Latin Mass Outlawed in Scotland - 11 August 1560
On 11 August 1560, the Scottish Parliament prohibited the Latin Mass in Scotland as Protestant faith gained the ascendancy.
Although this event predates the Jacobite period by over a century, it is relevant, nonetheless, as providing some indication of the hostility awaiting the Catholic James II and VII when he ascended the thrones of England and Scotland in 1685.
