Fidelis Joins Conservative Leaders to Push Confirmation of Judicial Nominees
Today, I received the following emailed press release from Joseph Cella of Fidelis:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 21, 2006Fidelis Joins Conservative Leaders to Push Confirmation of Judicial Nominees
CHELSEA, MI — Fidelis has joined a coalition of center-right leaders who wrote to Sen. Lindsey Graham asking him to end his opposition of Fourth Circuit nominee Jim Haynes in the Judiciary Committee. (Letter here.) Two weeks ago, Sen. Graham responded with his own letter. (Available here.) Today, the coalition released its reply to Sen. Graham. (See text below.)
“The fight to confirm new judges to the federal courts should be one of our top domestic priorities,” said Joseph Cella, President of Fidelis. “The issue of judges is one of the primary reasons many conservatives remain ready to work against liberal interest groups in this fall’s elections who want nothing more than activist judges on the bench.”
The initial letter sent said in part, “We write to remind you of your duty, but also because we are concerned that if the majority…lose just one seat in the next election, the future of the Supreme Court and the federal appellate bench will again be imperiled by use of filibusters.”
Cella stated: “The American people have demonstrated time and again their support for up or down votes on judges who won’t legislate from the bench. Voters understand the importance of the judiciary, and will be energized by a vigorous debate on this issue.”-Text of Reply Letter to Senator Lindsey Graham-
