Birthday of Robert Burns - 25 January 1759

In honour of the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns (and to placate the demands of Scarlette), I am posting this wedding photo of yours truly attired in semi-formal Highland dress (no, not a Highland dress):

That's me - with facial hair and a little less gray than I am now.

And now for my favorite Burns poem/song:
Scots, wha hae wi' Wallace bled,
Scots, wham Bruce has aften led,
Welcome to your gory bed,
Or to victory!

Now's the day, and now's the hour;
See the front o' battle lour,
See approach proud Edward's power—
Chains and slavery!

Wha will be a traitor-knave?
Wha can fill a coward's grave?
Wha sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!

Wha for Scotland's king and law
Freedom's sword will strongly draw,
Freeman stand or freeman fa',
Let him follow me!

By oppression's woes and pains,
By your sons in servile chains,
We will drain our dearest veins,
But they shall be free!

Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in ev'ry foe!
Liberty's in ev'ry blow!
Let us do or die!

Excellent photo! Argyll jacket w/Prince Charlie cuffs, evening belt rather than waistcoat, semi-formal sporran (appropriate given the occasion, hour of day, and choice of jacket), and tartan garter flashes. Very dapper! Anderson Ancient tartan, I believe you said? Very subdued.

That's the spirit, Jay!
Now I ask, what man would object to wearing a kilt?
I think, though, that kilts should be a couple of inches shorter.
Is it a naughty question if I ask what men wear under their kilts?

Scarlette,

I expose only the calf, my dear, only the calf.

The term "Putting one's best foot forward" harkens back to the day of country dances when women curtsied and men "presented themselves" by showing a bit of the calf and slightly bowing. No gentleman would be willing to show off more.

Granted, my kilt is a little long, but only by about an inch or so. To hike it up another couple of inches would border on the lewd.

As for undergarments, or lack thereof, only perverted impeached Presidents talk about such things in public. A gentleman never tells.

Scarlette...
What they wear under their kilts, whether it's a naughty question or not, is one that needs to be answered.
I'm thinking they probably wear their panties.
Unless I'm corrected, I'm going to keep thinking that.

Oh, and God bless kilts.

Oh no?

But I must say that, when I do wear it, it is quite liberating.

Of course, that could be because I wear it in the proper Scottish style. ;)

And Scarlette...

Is it a naughty question if I ask what men wear under their kilts?

Yes it is. If worn properly, the correct answer is: shoes.

I knew you were going to call me on that, Paul.

But in my defense, I never actually said what sort of undergarment, or lack thereof, that I wear under my kilt. I only alluded to wearing my kilt like a Scotsman.

By the way, a true gentleman never points out the shortcomings of one claiming to be a gentleman.
;)

"Allude" is exactly what you did! Which falls under the category of "talk about", which you denied doing.

Oh no?

If Teddy Kennedy ever claimed to be a gentleman, he would be laughed out of public service.

And stating that wearing a kilt is "liberating" if one "wear[s] it in the proper Scottish style" is decidedly NOT the same thing as "talk[ing] about" what one wears under a kilt.

I could be referring to any number of aspects of wearing Highland dress.

Well, what is the "proper scottish style"?

Yes, of course. No doubt. That must be it. I'm quite sure.

Note that you kilt wearers failed to notice that Rhonda assumed that you wear panties under your kilt.

Let's hope you don't, because it seems to me that the only thing that distiguishes a kilt from a Catholic school girl uniform is the panty factor. ;)

My Catholic uniform skirt was shorter than Jay's kilt and our skirts were considered very modest.
Oh well, April isn't too far away... Jay and Paul both have time to get those kilts to an acceptable length.
