Double Standard
So, the story about American interrogators at Guantanamo Base flushing copies of the Koran down the toilet turned out to be false. But, let's assume it was true. Why did the mainstream press play up the reports of Koran flushing as being such a horrible thing?
After all, as a caller to Laura Ingraham's radio program noted today, if it had been the Bible or a Crucifix or a picture of Our Lady being flushed down the toilet, it would have qualified for a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
And the MSM would have thought that to be just hunky-dory.

So, just to follow your chain of logic; you're suggesting that the US military should operate by the same standards as the National Endowment for the Arts? Flushing the Koran of a prisoner is horrible because it violates every individual's right to worship who and how they see fit. Now,really, ask yourself, "What Would Jesus Do?"

I merely pointed out that the media treats one with horror and the other approvingly.
I'm not sure what you read into my statements, but I do find it odd that you seem to be more troubled by unfounded allegations of Koran flushing than by actual instances of federally funded attacks on Catholicism.

Even if it is a hypothetical, flushing a Koran is a "horrible thing." I am also very suspect of Newsweek's retraction after tremendous pressure from the White House and the Pentagon.

(1) the MSM getting worked up over it (in fact, they defended it), or
(2) Catholics rioting and killing people over it.

Perhaps Catholics didn't riot over Piss Christ because they weren't being unjustly occupied by a foreign military. In case you haven't noticed, our current administration's wars in Afghanistan and Iraq haven't excactly been backed with much truth or logic.

Todd, I think you answered your own question in your very next post. It's your willingness to put the worst possible spin on anything the U.S. (or at least he Bush Administration) does with respect to its foreign policy.
So, of course the Koran flushing story must be true, and if Newsweak [sic] retracted the story, it can only be because the Bush Administration exerted some sort of evil influence.
Jay, is it "spin" to demand to have these questions answered truthfully?
Was Iraq connected to the September 11 attacks?
Did Iraq attempt to purchase uranium from Niger?
Have weapons of mass destruction been found in Iraq?
Has evidence of links between Saddam Hussein's regime and Al Qaeda been found in Iraq? (before the war)
Why, if so many of the September 11 bombers were Saudis, have we not taken any action against Saudi Arabia?
There are dozens if not hundreds more questions of this type that the world deserves to have answered. These issues are so fundamental to the logic for war that if we don't have the right answers then we should not be at war.
Dissent is an inherent right of democracy. I'm not out to put the worst possible spin on anything the U.S. or the Bush Adminstration does. But trust is something that is earned Jay. Instead, we as U.S. citizens move blithely forward and accept that our government lies in order to commit murder in order to shape the world as it sees fit.
In my first comment I asked the ever popular, "What Would Jesus Do?" It may sound flip and sarcastic, but I want to know. How can so many so-called Christians support these wars. Christ was an ally of the poor and the meek, not the rich and powerful.
