I Have A Question Regarding Polls.

Since the death of His Holiness, John Paul II, we've seen a number of media outlets conducting polls which find that a "majority of Catholics" want the newly elected pontiff to have a different position than John Paul II on the issues of:

(1) the ordination of women,
(2) priestly celibacy,
(3) birth control, and
(4) stem cell research.

(Apparently, and I'm sure to the shock of the media pollsters, the polls show that about 60% of Catholics agree with John Paul II on his opposition to abortion.)

Aside from the question of why these issues are being framed as the Pope's personal opinions rather than the teachings of the Catholic Church, I have another question:

Why isn't anyone conducting any polls on whether the new Pope should have a different opinion than John Paul II on the death penalty and on the Iraq War?

There couldn't be a liberal political agenda at work here could there? Nooooo, of course not.

Excellent observation. It is really going to bug them that again the Caholic Church will resist the tide of modernity. Jesus wasn't kidding about the gates of hell never prevaling, and it is no surprise that they don't accept this.

Give me one more like John Paul and I am good for another 25 years. If we could all live 1/4th of the way John Paul did a lot of this country's problems would go away.
