"Another Misapplication of Catholic Social Doctrine"

Eric Pavlat (a Democrat) writes at InsideCatholic:
I was a little frustrated to read "Is Obama a Secret Catholic?" this morning in the Washington Post/Newsweek's On Faith section. The author, Anthony Stevens-Arroyo, tells us that Obama "has offered a theology of social activism consonant with Catholic teaching," and cites a 2006 Obama speech in which he claims that Obama "embraced a reasonable facsimile of Catholic Natural Law doctrine."

Have these authors ever spent half-an-hour at fantastic websites such as www.faithfulcitizenship.org before writing this sort of article? Or read documents like Doctrinal Note on Some Questions Regarding the Participation of Catholics in Political Life or Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship?

I'm not saying McCain is the poster boy for Catholic Social Doctrine (that'd be Joe Schriner). But to claim Obama as that poster boy is to radically misunderstand the Church's teaching.

My Comments:
"Another Misapplication of Catholic Social Doctrine"

We've seen a LOT of that this election season, on both sides of the political aisle. But claims like the one with which Pavlat takes issue are particularly egregious.

Sort of like Doug Kmiec claiming that Obama's position on abortion is actually closer to the Catholic position than McCain's.
